They were one of the first and most important groups in the early American hardcore scene, known for creating a singular aesthetic based on old horror movies and oldies music. Doyle Wolfgang Von Frankestein was the band's third guitarist, the younger brother of bassist Jerry Only. He started playing with them in 1980, appearing on almost all of their recorded material as well as touring all over with them.
